Elrond actor Robert Aramayo shares his excitement that one of longest-living elves will be in The Rings of Power Season 2.
If you missed an elf named CÃrdan in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it's probably because he only had a small part in the films. Jackson cast Michael Elsworth in the role, and he appears briefly as CÃrdan during the opening monologue of the first film as a well as a cameo near the end of Return of the King when Frodo, Gandolf, and Bilbo sail into the west. But in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, CÃrdan will finally have a larger role in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic.
In Tolkien's lore, the character was known among his people as CÃrdan the Shipwright, and he was one of the original owners of the elves' Rings of Power. CÃrdan is also one of the oldest living elves, with a lifespan that went from the First Age to the Fourth Age, well after the events of the trilogy.
Via Total Film, actor Ben Daniels will play CÃrdan in The Rings of Power Season 2, which will bring him to the forefront as a mentor to Robert Aramayo's Elrond. While speaking with Total Film, Aramayo shared his excitement to be a part of CÃrdan's story.
"It was exciting, selfishly, to be a part of that character's introduction, because he's such an amazing character," said Aramayo. "He's absolutely fascinating and so unique."
The new issue of Total Film also reveals that Game of Thrones veteran Ciarán Hinds is playing a wizard who is tracking down the Stranger (Daniel Weyman), an enigmatic being who is strongly implied to be either Gandolf or one of the other Maia who came to Middle-earth to battle the forces of Sauron.
Previously, The Rings of Power showrunners have emphasized that Season 2 is focused on the villains. As part of that shift, Sauron's rise to power will be a big part of the story. Prime Video will premiere The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 on August 29.
